The process of Dog training involves teaching new skills and behaviors to a Dog. Whether you are intentionally teaching your Dog, they are always learning and they will invent their own rules if you don't set them. The proper training regiment can help set the appropriate boundaries and shape a healthy relationship between you and your beloved Dog.

There are numerous Dog training methods including basic obedience training to specialized training areas including law enforcement, search and rescue, hunting, working with livestock, and protection or guarding. Training may involve teaching a Dog to actively respond to commands or it may involve helping the Dog to better cope with stressful environments.

Dog trainers take different approaches to reaching the desired outcome. The most popular training methods involve:

  • Positive Trainers: they use positive reinforcement to motivate the Dogs and change their behaviors
  • Traditional Trainers: they encourage the use of punishment as a way to means to solicit the attention of the Dog
  • Dominance Trainers: they believe all animals have an innate desire to dominate others and use this as a basis for their training methods
